Can it be?

Really?
  • Rohn is already 1/3 of a year old :(

  • I am now starting my 4th week of teaching second grade.

  • I haven't posted in over a month...make that closer to 2 months.

  • I can't manage to clean my bedroom/living room/bathroom/laundry room

  • I still have a few pregnancy pounds that are making it impossible to fit into my beloved clothes.

  • I am supposed to run a 1/2 marathon in 8 weeks.

  • There are only 159 days of school left until summer vaca.

Pork Chop

Look at those cheeks!!
Happy baby!
Rohn's 2 month appointment was on Friday the 10th. All in all it went well. The little pork chop has gained lots of weight and is very healthy. Shots were ok. I listened from afar in the lobby, since I didn't have the heart to watch my baby get manipulated. Jarrod said that Rohn made a surprised face when they stuck him with the needle and then the loud cry ensued. Our poor little man was a bit grumpy for the remainder of the day, but was doing great the next day.

Two month stats:
14.6 pounds ->95th percentile
16 3/4 inch head circumference-> 95th percentile
24 1/4 inch length -> 90th percentile

He hasn't laughed yet, but he gets super excited and squeals when he plays on his play mat. He doesn't sleep through the night consistantly yet. Instead he likes to surprise us every once in awhile with a nice 6 hour stretch.

2 months and thousands of miles traveled

One happy baby and 2 adorable dimples

Don't wake a sleeping baby for a family picture, even if it's for a picture in front of Mt.Mckinley!! (which you can't even see!!)
Sleepin on the job with cousin and great-grandma

Rohn is now 10 weeks old. It's amazing how quickly the time flies. He goes in tomorrow for his 2 month check-up. We are anxious to see how much he weighs since we can't imagine his cheeks getting any bigger:)
We spent the past three weeks in Alaska visiting Amber's family. It was so nice being there for that long. Time was spent hanging out with family and friends, hanging out in Anchorage and lots of relaxing. We are blessed to have the amazing baby that we have. He was so good on all 4 of the flights and all of the driving that we did. The pressure in the plane didn't bother him and he pretty much slept and entertained the people around us. We are either lucky parents or he is just easing us into the trouble that is about to ensue:)
In the past few weeks Rohn has started smiling and cooing and even laughing on occasion. He grabs onto toys and holds them and loves looking at anything shiny or colorful. He loves laying on his play mat and batting at his toys. The excitement in his little voice is so cute. When he is sitting in your lap he wants to stand up. He and daddy play a game where he holds onto dads hands and stands up quickly. He absolutely loves it!! We can't wait to see what he learns to do in the next few weeks...maybe it will be sleeping through the night :) Although last night he had a 6 1/2 hour stretch from 9:30pm to 4am....yeah for mom!!
After our appointment tomorrow we will update on stats.

4 weeks

Today our little man turns 4 weeks. We can't believe how quickly the time is going. On Tuesday of this week daddy had to go back to work, so it was just Rohn and mama for 48 straight hours. We actually did quite well without daddy, but we were very excited to see him when he came home.

Rohn is really starting to be more alert. He raises his head off of our shoulders and looks around, and his awake times are really starting to get longer and longer. He is also starting to track objects near him. When his attention is on something he will follow it around. We are not quite sure how much he weighs, but we are pretty sure it is somewhere near 10 pounds, if not more!! He has also started to smile, you might be thinking it's gas, but we think it's a genuine smile!

We are excited for what the next few weeks will bring. Rohn will be going on his first trip in an airplane on June 16th. We can't wait to show him off to all of the family in Alaska.

A few of the favs...

Here are a few of my favorite pictures so far :)
Our little guy has the cutest dimples. We catch him smiling all the time. While we know the smiles aren't for us yet, we still think they are super adorable. We can't wait until he smiles for us...we know it won't be long!

Since Jarrod and I both have blue eyes, we think Rohn may end up with blue eyes too! While it is still too early to tell, we think they are already blue!!

When he sleeps, his hands are always up by his face. I think it may be because his hands were by his face for so long in the womb.

Visitors

We were very fortunate to have Jarrod's dad and my mom come and stay with us for nearly 3 weeks. My mom was such an amazing help. She cooked yummy food, cleaned for us, and helped us with Rohn. We were very sad to see her go back home yesterday. You never realize how important your parents are until you become a parent yourself. Thanks for all of your help mom. We love you and miss you tons!!

Besides my mom and Jarrod's dad visiting we have also had many other visitors. Jarrod's mom, and step dad, our 2 brothers, and many other friends. Rohn is very lucky to have been born into such a loving group of family and friends. We thank all of you for being a part of his life.

Rohn Michael Allison

Our little bundle of joy arrived on April 30th at 5:49 pm via c-section. He never ended up turning due to the cord being wrapped around his neck. He weighed 8lbs 13 oz and was 19 1/2 inches long. At his first dr. appt he had lost a few ounces, but was almost 22 inches long, so we think the breech position may have made it difficult for the nurses to measure him. We have been having a great time getting to know our son. He is a very sweet, mild mannered baby.

The past month

Wow, has it really been over a month since I last posted?! Time sure flies. The past month has been busy. We have had 2 baby showers, lots of house guests, and have been busy getting things ready for 'our little man.' Kristin and Melissa through me a baby shower in mid March. We ate great food, played fun games, and received much needed baby goods. Last Friday was my last day of work...ahhh...what ever will I do for the next 4 months?! I am sure baby will give me lots to do :) On Saturday our friends Christina and Danny threw another shower for us, only this time it included men too!! Christina did a great job cooking wonderful food and planning fun games. I think Jarrod had a good time, although he probably doesn't want to admit that he had a fun time at a 'baby shower!!'

We had our weekly dr. appt. on Monday. The appt. didn't go as planned, but we are starting to accept the news. Our little guy is still breech. He is actually in a position called 'frank breech' meaning his feet are up near his face. Sounds very uncomfortable to me, but dr. assured us it is okay. After discussing a few options, one of which is version, where they manually turn the baby in a hospital in case something goes wrong, she did an ultrasound and decided that a version is out of the picture. His body position and the position of the anterior placenta (in the front instead of up top or on the side) makes a version impossible. So, we are going to most likely have to give up our birth plan of a natural labor. The dr. told us she wants to schedule a c-section for April 30th!! Yep, you calculated right, that is only 3 weeks from tomorrow. Before they preform the c-section they will do an ultrasound to make sure he hasn't flipped. I was devastated when she told me, but am getting more used to the idea. I have never had surgery or even broken a bone, so I am terrified of having a c-section. A part of me is excited to know we don't have to wait much longer, but I am crushed that I will most likely not be able to have a natural birth. I almost knew something like this would happen since I have had the easiest pregnancy.

I will keep everyone posted in the next few weeks. Who knows, we could be holding a baby in 21 days.

8 week countdown

Getting big, but still feeling great! Here is a picture from almost 2 weeks ago...oops! We have started seeing the Dr. every 2 weeks. Up until 36 weeks we will see the dr. every two weeks and then we will start going ever week. In 4 weeks I will be done teaching for the year. I am sad to leave my cute little students, but excited to relax the last 4 weeks of this long pregnancy.

This Saturday is my baby shower (Thanks K & Mel!) I will post pics after it is all said and done. We hope you are all doing well. Thanks for being so patient with the infrequent postings.

3rd Trimester.....

here we come! Stay tuned for updated baby bump pictures :)

A sad day

Last Tuesday as Jarrod and I were going to bed we got a phone call from my brother. My dad, who had been diagnosed with cancer in April, had passed away unexpectedly. My dad chose to fight cancer alone because he did not want us to worry about him. His courage and determination will never be forgotten by me. I am having a hard time dealing with his departure, but slowly I am coming to grips with the fact that he no longer has to lie about his sickness and he is no longer in pain.
We were all told that his cancer had shrunk. There was no need for additional chemo or radiation because the cancer was going away. A discussion with his doctor revealed that the cancer was much worse than he let anyone believe. The cancer had spread to his lymph nodes, adrenal glands, and intestines and chemo and radiation could not help. I am aching inside. I wish he wouldn't have kept that information from us. I wish I could have helped him. I am so sad that he battled this disease on his own.
My kids will never know how great their grandfather was. I hope to carry on his memories, so he lives on through them.

L & D

We took a little field trip to L & D last Monday. I called my doctor due to some dizziness that I had been experiencing. She decided to have me go to the hospital to get checked out. The baby's heartbeat was monitored, I was monitored for contractions and my blood pressure was monitored for about an hour. I also had blood drawn. Everything turned out okay though and they released us after about 4 hours. The dizziness is still a mystery, I guess it's just what happens when you have a little one growing inside of you :) I was glad to have a mini tour of L & D. It sort of puts my mind at ease knowing how kind the nurses are. Hopefully our next field trip won't be for another 12 weeks or so.

As you can see I am not good at updating...I guess no news is good news :) I am a little over 25 weeks and doing great. I had a doctors appointment last week and things are going well. My weight is good, BP is great, and I am measuring right on track. Last weekend we bought our nursery furniture and stroller/carseat combo. It feels good to finally have some 'big' items!! The furniture should arrive in a few weeks. It gives us some time to decide on bedding and paint the room.
We have another ultrasound scheduled for next month to make sure our little man is growing as he should. I am excited to see him on the big screen again! He has been kicking and moving around a lot lately. Fortunately it hasn't caused a disruption in my sleep...not yet anyways!
Time for breakfast...baby needs food!

23 weeks and counting :)

Today (Jan 15th) is actually our 24th week, but here is a picture of the 23 week tummy. Things are going well. I am feeling fantastic and still keeping my weight pretty low. We started feeling little man move about 3 weeks ago. It is the neatest thing. Jarrod has even been able to feel him. We go in next week for our 6th month check up. I had an ultrasound of my neck to check for the possible goiter, but it came back clear so that is good. Each month I go in and have blood drawn to check my thyroid levels and every month the dose has gone down. At 28 weeks I will go in and have another ultrasound to check and make sure that he is growing as he should be. We are crossing our fingers that my thyroid is not causing any problems.

Our plan for this weekend (a nice long 3 day weekend) is to finalize our nursery selection so we can paint and order some furniture. I am soooooo indecisive and this has got to be the most impossible decision for me to make. We will post pictures as soon as we choose something.

Love this man :) He is going to be the best daddy around...Who's your daddy?!

Jarrod doing what he does best...he always gets volunteered for one of the 'shows'. And this time I didn't volunteer him!!

Finally!

We know, that's what you are saying right now, "Finally they are updating their blog!" We took a bit of a hiatus from blogging, but we are back. We had a great Christmas vacation. We spent December 23rd and 24th with Jarrod's parents in Reno. On Christmas day we boarded a jet and headed to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to spend 12 days with Amber's family. The weather was great, the food sucked and Amber had a hard time watching everyone else enjoy the delicious margaritas. While we were there we went on a pirate ship/booze cruise (poor Amber) and were fortunate enough to see a mama humback whale and her calf. It was an amazing sight watching the two of them swim alongside our boat. After about 10 minutes of watching the mama came up out of the water and waved her big tail at us. It was almost as if she was saying bye.
New years eve was pretty low key...well for me and my mom anyways :) The two of us were in bed and asleep by 9:00. At 11:45 everyone came back to the room and woke us up to watch the fireworks then it was back to bed by 12:05am. The rest of the crew had a great time until they ended up in a clinic getting stiches for one of the cousins. Did you know you can even negotiate prices in clinics in Mexico?! Ask Jarrod all about it! New Year's day was pretty rough for everyone except mom and I!!
The rest of the trip was laid back. Overall it was a fun trip, but we are certainly glad to be back.
